The choice of name for König consumer snow chains

How to understand the König range starting with product naming? Let's see how.

The König range of consumer snow chains consists of several products with different applications, characteristics and positioning; to facilitate understanding the product range an explanatory or 'talking' naming logic has been established.

The name assigned to the various products is functional for understanding their features and functionality.

The logic of the product naming of König snow chains is, in most cases, based on two letters and one digit.

  1. The first letter can be either a C or an X: C indicates a product intended for application on passenger cars, X indicates a product for SUVs, Commercial Vehicles, VANs and Camper vans.
  2. The second letterindicates the content level of the product in alphabetical order: more basic products will have one of the first letters of the alphabet, while those with higher features and technology level will have a higher letter.
  3. The figure at the end of the product name indicates the static chain clearance in millimeters.

Let's make some examples.

The name CB-12 describes a chain, intended for passenger cars, with basic contents and clearance of 12mm.
The name CB-7 describes a chain, intended for passenger cars, with basic contents and, unlike the CB-12, has a clearance of 7 mm, therefore it is compatible with cars that have more limited space inside the wheel arch.
The name CD-9 describes a chain, again intended for passenger cars, with higher contents than the CB-12 (Micro-Adjust and Wheel-Shield 1 alloy wheel protection system) and a static clearance of 9mm.
The nameCG-9, on the other hand, describes a chain, again intended for passenger cars but with more functions than the CD-9 (König ATC self-tensioning device) and which has a static dimension of 9mm.

Let’s see some examples for the SUV’s and commercial vehicle segment now.

The name  XB-16 describes a chain intended for SUVs and commercial vehicles, with basic contents and a static clearance of 16mm.
In contrast, the XD-16  product, although still a chain for the same application and with the same thickness, has superior contents (Micro-Adjust device and Wheel-Shield 1 alloy wheel protection system).
The XG-12 Pro, on the other hand, is placed on a higher position within the range due to its greater content and functionality (König ATC self-tensioning device). In this case, the suffix Pro indicates the product's applicability also on heavy commercial vehicles used daily for professional/working purposes. In fact, the product has dual homologation V5117 and V5119.

König's Hero products, on the other hand, have names that easily recall the special characteristics of the chain range. Here are some examples

The K-Slim chain is the first super-thin chain developed by König in 2007, known for both its static and dynamic thickness. When it was developed, it represented the thickness chain in the König range and the product name is based on this concept.

The name of the Easy-Fit family (in CU-9 and SUV variants) its self-explanatory. When it was developed and launched, it represented the easiest chain in the König range.

TheK-Summit family (XL / XXL / VAN / MAX - depending on vehicle type) represents the concept of the top, or summit describes the positioning of the product at the top of the range, with specific suffixes to describe versions for compact crossovers and SUVs (XL), large SUVs (XXL), commercial vehicles and RV (VAN) and electric vehicles (MAX).

The XG Cross, is the offspring product of the XG-12 Pro but with a smaller clearance, intended for lighter vehicles (crossovers and compact SUVs) than the XG-12 Pro, the suffix Cross sanctioning the dedicated application on that category of vehicles.

The name Reflex Edge describes the two main concepts of the most innovative product within the König range. The term Reflex describes the symmetrical design of the inner and outer elements of the chain and the concept of natural and immediate assembly (like a natural reflection); the suffix Edge, nevertheless, emphasizes the thickness (both static and dynamic) of the chain that wraps around the wheel like a thin and exact edge.
